Grasshoppers And Elephants!By Ann E. Butenas I boldly went to bed one night with little brother by my side. I looked around the room to see where something just might hide. For fear of creatures so unknown, we did not want to be alone. Into our comfy beds we crept, thinking how we could have slept But somehow our sweet dreams were over, And we both had to dodge for cover. Grasshoppers and elephants were marching into our room. Could we make them go away or would this be our doom? The sounds of grasshoppers and the stomp-stomp of elephant feet This surely was not a good-night treat. I raced out of my sleepless bed. And down the hall to clear my head. I asked my daddy to please take care Of those grand creatures way down there. Down the hall to my room he soared. "There are no creatures here," he roared. "Oh, yes there are. They're over there." "Now get them now, and don't be scared." He grabbed a tissue from his pocket And scooped up 'hoppers like a rocket. But there was still a matter here. Those elephants were somewhere near. Little brother had quickly said While peeking his head way under the bed. "I see an elephant down there." "Now get him now, and don't be scared." He got down on his knees to see Just what could be bothering me. He told that elephant to go away. And don't come back on any day. Now Dad got up and said, "To bed!" We jumped right in and laid our heads It was off to slumberland we would go, Until the morning sun did glow. And then we realized one little thing.
